Child Support

Seattle Child Support Attorney

Washington State places a high priority on ensuring that the needs of children are met. Usually, a non-custodial parent is required to pay child support, but other arrangements are possible.

The amount of the required child support payment is based on guidelines in the statutes, and depends on the incomes of both parents, the number of children, their ages and other factors. Courts have some ability to depart from these guidelines but in practice they tend to follow the guidelines closely.

At Compatore Law, P.S., we advise and represent clients in all aspects of child support, including:

Modifications in Child Support Orders

During the divorce process, the court may issue a temporary child support order, followed by another child support order at the time the divorce decree is issued. That does not mean that the required child support payment has to stay the same. As income changes, living arrangements of the child change and the needs of the child change, so too can the amount of the child support payment.

Compatore Law, P.S. can go to court to obtain a modification in the child support payment for you. To consider such a modification, the change in circumstances must be significant. A job promotion and higher salary, a period of disability, and other changes in life can be sufficient for the court to issue a modified child support order. Attorney John Compatore can review your situation in a free consultation, and go to court to obtain a modification for you.
